Literature Text

You went towards the circulation area, heading to the back where there were less people browsing the bookshelves. You knew exactly where to go, and once you reached the shelves, you smiled.

In front of you, an array of books about flowers were present. You didn't expect anyone to know about the special corner you liked going to, especially since you were probably one of the few who would check out the area every now and then. The little nook you had books about your favorite flower—tulips.

You absolutely loved all kinds of flowers, but you loved the tulip because of how beautiful its form is, a bulb that was even more beautiful that when bloomed, gives one a sneak peek on its wonderful inside.

You peered around for the book that you were looking for, and found it almost instantly. Taking it, you nodded in contentment. Back then, you used to just look at the pictures, loving how beautiful the tulips looked, especially the ones from Netherlands. Columns and columns of different colored tulips made you smile dreamily. You wondered how it would be like to be surrounded by those beautiful flowers.

Now, however, you were going to learn how to grow your own. You didn't want to sit around looking at the pictures, you wanted to do something productive with your free time on weekends. Deciding on a little gardening as your recreational project, you chose tulips as your first set of plants for your backyard.

Before you left your area of solitude, you noticed someone standing by the window, reading another book about your favorite flower. Smiling to yourself, you thought it was great other appreciated it. You were about to leave, when you recognized the tall person.

'Tim!' You called out in a soft voice as the tall man looked up from his book. You did a small wave, to which he acknowledged with a nod. You could've sworn that he gave a small smile, but you couldn't be certain. 'Hello!' You greeted as you walked towards him.

'Hi (Name),' He replied as you kept your smile. 'Good to see you.'

'Likewise,' you replied as he nodded. 'No work today?'.

Tim worked at and owned flower shop nearby. When the shop had opened, you wasted no time in going there, and were quite surprised to find that a man would be running the store. You've been there every week, since what attracted you to come to the store was the beautiful and fresh tulips that were on display. You'd always buy a bouquet for your apartment, and soon became a regular.

Other than the tulips, you'd also come to see the (ahem) handsome owner, Tim. As soon as you both became friends, he'd set aside a bouquet for you that would be ready for pick up when you arrived, and even offered you a warm drink on days when you free. You loved how gentle he was and that small spark he had in his eyes when he'd talk to you about the different flowers he grows, especially for tulips. It would always make you smile. From then on you had a crush on the kind man, and you were just looking for the right time to tell him.

'Business was a bit slow, so I decided to take the rest of the day off.' He said nonchalantly, as you nodded.

'Aww, I was hoping to pass by and get new tulips,' you teased, giggling to yourself as you nodded. You turned your back towards him as you browsed the shelves in front of you. 'But that's okay, I'll come by tomorrow, is that ok?'

'Well you can come by today...' He mumbled as he looked down, cheeks turning a bit pink as he thanked God that you couldn't see him blush.

'Hmm? Did you say something?'  You asked as you turned around, to which he shook his head. That's when he noticed the book you were carrying.

'Are you gardening, (Name)?' He asked while looking at the book.

'Oh this?' You said as you lifted it. 'I'm thinking of growing my own. It's my new little project for the weekend, or whenever I'm free. I won't have to buy every so often.

Tim frowned at this. Even though he should be happy that you were taking an interest at gardening like he had, you were going to start growing your own. That would mean that you wouldn't be coming by so much every week. He wouldn't be racking up the courage every now and then to ask you to stay for a drink.

What you don't know, is that Tim loves your company. It seemed to brighten his day even more especially when you'd flash your lovely smile. A lot of people would think it quite odd that he would run a flower shop, since for a man of his built it looked like that was the last thing he'd do. A few thought of him differently, but you don't. You were one of the only people who would look at him and accepted him for what he does. You even shared the same interest and enthusiasm for him over flowers and he was grateful. He didn't know when it began, but at some point, the simple hello's had become extended (and heart-palpitating) questions to get you to stay for a little longer. Even though it did make him nervous, it was worth it.

But... She's going to grow her own flowers now...
His mind traced back to how you would probably stop coming by, making his frown deeper.

He wouldn't be seeing your smile as much as before.

'Tim?' You asked, waving a hand in front of him. He spaced out for a while and you were trying to catch his attention. 'You okay?'

'You can't.' He said abruptly. Surprised, your eyes widened, and he took a deep breath before continuing. 'You can't start learning.'

'But... why not?' You asked, your tone sounding hurt as you gave a slight frown. Does he think I can't do it...?

His eyes widened at the realization that he had unintentionally hurt your feelings. He held your arms as you looked down, keeping your frown as he began explaining quickly. 'N-No! It's not that I think you can't do it, it's just...' He trailed off. 'I mean you would probably be a great gardener and grow your own set of beautiful tulips, but...'

You gazed up at him, seeing his cheeks somewhat flushed. 'Tim…?' You asked, now confused.

After keeping silent for a few moments you sighed and a frown showed on your face. ‘Are you saying you don't want me to learn? Why?'

‘No, that’s not it, (Name)’ He said almost too quickly as he looked away. He didn’t want to see you sad. He wanted to make you smile, but he ended up doing the opposite. Why can’t he just be honest with you?

‘Tim, please… tell me. What’s wrong?’ You asked, softly this time as you kept your gaze at him. He was acting strange, and it was making you worried. Why would he not want you to learn how to grow your own flowers?

He kept quiet at this as he let go of your arms, and sighed. 'Because I want you to....' His voice trailed off as you mumbled the rest.

'What?' You asked, as he huffed.

'You know what, forget it.' He said as he held your face and leaned in, his lips brushing against yours as your eyes widened, then automatically closed as you sighed and melted into the kiss, kissing him back with as much passion. Your arms wrapped around his neck as you pulled him closer, quite forcefully. He smiled into the kiss as his strong arms wrapped around your waist, momentarily lifting you up. You gasped as he slipped his tongue in, and you ran your hands played with his blonde hair at the back of his neck. Probably by far the best kiss ever, which ended when he pulled away, your eyes fluttering open to gaze into his beautiful captivating ones.

'Wow...' You commented aloud as you instantly turned red, realizing that he heard it, and he replied with a chuckle before setting you down on your feet.

'Ik hou van jou, (Name)' he said softly as he rested his forehead against yours.

'I love you too, Tim' you said breathlessly as he chuckled, and let out a sigh of relief. 'So... what were you saying earlier about me not learning?'

'Oh... I just... I wanted you to keep coming by the shop... So I was hoping you wouldn't learn'. He said sheepishly as he looked away. Now it was your turn to chuckle.

‘You’re so silly. Even if I started learning, I'd still come by.' You said as you smiled. 'I don't just go to your shop for the flowers, honestly.' You added as your cheeks turned a light shade of pink.

'You don't?' He asked. You nodded, before kissing him again.

'I come to see you.'

---Extended Ending---

After his cute confession at the library you both dated for a while, before he decided he proposed to you. Now you both were living at his apartment at the 2nd floor of the flower shop. You were now working at the flower shop, at the cashier, while he would be the one tending to the flowers and packing the orders. You’d help him from time to time when there would be no customers and take pointers from him on how to take care of them. You were now officially running the shop together.

You quickly put on the apron as you rushed to the phone, and answered it. After writing down the order the customer requested, you called out to Tim and passed the note to him. He was at the back, fixing the orders while you, as always, tended to the cashier. You pulled your hair into a ponytail as the bell from the door rang, signalling that a customer entered. You smiled greatly.

'Good morning, Liz!' You greeted your friend as you finished tying the string of your apron around your waist.

'Good morning, (Name)' the young lady replied as she smiled at you. 'How are you today?'

'I'm great, thank you,' you replied as you smiled. 'I'll go ask Tim to get your bouquet.' You said before looking at the back. 'Tim!! Elizabeta’s here for her carnations!!' He said an ‘ok’ as a reply and you smiled.

'You both make great couple.' She said with a wink as you turned a bit pink, and chuckled softly.

'Thanks Liz,' you replied as you felt an arm snake around your waist before a bouquet was laid in front of you.

'Ah!!' You gasped in surprised as Elizabeta and a deep voice behind you chuckled. 'Tim!! You surprised me!!' You whined as you felt someone kiss your head.

‘Sorry.’ He replied as you felt yourself turn pink. ‘Thought you’d be used to it by now.’ You were about to glare at him and scold him to stop being lovey-dovey in front of a customer when Liz beat you to it.

'So~ it’s the usual price right?' She asked as you both nodded. Tim's arms still around your waist as she gave you the money and you returned the change. 'You always grow the best carnations, Tim' she said as she carried the small bouquet and smelled the flowers.

‘Actually, (Name) grew this one.’ He informed her with a smile. ‘I just wrapped them.’

‘They’re beautiful, (Name), I can’t wait to bring them home and put them in a vase.’ She said as you thanked her, and made her way to the door. She twisted the handle when she turned around. 'Oh! Congratulations by the way! You both will make wonderful parents,' she said with a smile as you returned it and waved at her.

'Thank you again, Liz! Have a nice day.' You said as Tim thanked her as well. Realizing no other customer was coming in, you smiled as you turned around, wrapping your arms around his neck while his were still around your waist. He leaned down to kiss you gently on the lips, before squatting and he kissing your stomach, after which he murmured sweet words to your child. You smiled at the ticklish sensation he was making. He stood straight once more before pulling you into his arms again.

'She's right,' you said to him as you fixed his apron. 'You'll make a great father.'

'And you, a great mother.' He replied as he kissed you once again. 'I love you, (Name)'

'Ik hou van jou, Tim.' He smiled before kissing you on the head.

'I can't wait to start our family with you.'
